I've been off the net for a week now cuz my puter took a nose dive. The repairman said it was my Norton anti-virus program that was to blame. The dang thing exploded (or whatever piss poor software does) and took out a bunch of my files with it. After getting Windows fixed for me he deleted Norton altogether and put a freeware anti-virus program on my computer. It's called BitDefender and the guy swears by it.
Anyways, my puter is running faster than it ever has now. It seems that Norton sucks up all sorts of processor time and slows down your system. My friend Timmy, who owns iomfats.org, lost his entire server when trying to install a Norton update. But, horray, I'm back online and can talk to my friends again. -------------------- White Ribbon Campaign. Huggles for you Mr. Pauly and I hope that your computer is fixed...um, may I suggest a Mac for your next computer, minus the Norton? I can hear computers being thrown at me now...hee hee :P Michael -------------------- For Mikie |

I've posted elsewhere about my computer woes and my absence from the net. Funny thing, but I wouldn't have believed the number of people that agree with you, Wibby and Michael. And when I'm ready to update my system, I'll certainly be thinking long and hard about switching to a mac. That will be, hopefully, a few years down the road yet as this laptop is just a little over a year old. And I'm hoping (probably falsely) that Bill Gates will have his operating system working adequately between now and then. But he'll no sooner have all his fixes to Vista complete when he'll bring out a new operating system full of bugs. And he will stop selling Vista and force you to buy the new one. Why does this sound like such a familiar story?

Pauly-poo,
I told my ex to get a Mac (he added up all the money he spent on computers in the last 10 years on PCs and it was like $21,000.00) and did he listen to me..... NO..of course not.... and well, he got a PC with Vista and every time we chat on line he screams how horrible the PC is and Vista....duh, like did he listen...NOPE and now he has so many computer problems that he will soon have to get another computer..let's see if this time he listens and gets a Mac....... I am not holding my breath....but that's another story all together...LOL PC users.......those Mac vs PC commercials have truth in them............remember MAC is the way to go.. thank you for listening to this public service announcement.. -------------------- For Mikie |

I don't use windows - but I don't use a mac either.
I use the linux distribution Ubuntu - but that's mainly because I'm too cheap to pay for a Mac I think that I'd probably get a mac if I had the money, but I live on the cheapest stuff out there (second hand, third hand, whichever) -------------------- QUOTE (blue) If you wait until you've got it all figured out, you'll be waitin' until you're floatin' on a cloud. Most of us Mac people who dislike PCs really mean we dislike Windoze. And you do know MacOS is actually BSD UNIX, right? As for those considering switching to Mac, I will offer email tech support to Newbies to help you with any conversion headaches Changing the world: one person at a time. -------------------- -- Tanuki Raccoon

Help.....any Mac users amongst us?
I had to reinstall my Mac software, Microsoft word and my Intego virus protection system doesn't work. I tried Norton and I am returning it for a refund...since it sucks and keeps crashing my system. Do any Mac users NOT use a virus protection program? I asked at the Apple store and the Tech support guy looked at me in disgust and said he has NEVER used a virus protection program and looked at me like I must be a stupid idiot for wanting a virus protection program? GRRRR!! One more question....since I have had the IMac G5, it sucks too..I am on my second one..the first one died on me and I never had a Mac die on me and this replacement one (which is now 4 years old seems on its way out>.....double grrrr..) I have an Imac from 1998 and it works like a charm......makes me wonder about Mac now having gone with PC systems in it.....grrrr.. does any one have a Mac Mini and do they like it? help......I don't like lap tops and they are way expensive but are they any better on the Mac lap tops then the Imacs? any help is eternally appreciated since I am at my wits end!! Huggles for all of you for having to hear my anguish and angst and screams.....but my computer crashes now more times then I have patience for...and don't even suggest I get a PC......I like my Mac and its easy to use and I am so computer stupid that I don't have the energy to even begin to try to understand PCs. help..for any one who can give me a reply...thanks and huggles for all of you for listening..and reading my pain. Do any Mac users NOT use a virus protection program? help......I don't like lap tops and they are way expensive but are they any better on the Mac lap tops then the Imacs? 1. I am a Mac user and ex-Apple employee. I've even met Woz 2. If you are interested, I would suggest Open Office for the Mac (or the prettier looking but identically functional NeoOffice). It will read/write all Office files. 3. If you bought Norton you are consigned to the seventh level of hell 4. I have not (since 10.2) run any anti-virus on my system but that's a bit brave of me. Still they cause more troubles than they fix. The more you know about computers the less risk it is. 5. I do not care for the iMacs because of expandability issues. Ditto laptops. The smaller you make components the less reliable they are because HEAT is the enemy of electronics. I prefer the big ole' desktops. But that's mean. But dollar for dollar an iMac is better than the laptop or desktop. Reliability? Go tower. -------------------- -- Tanuki Raccoon

Write By Myself,
Thanks so much. I have never had a lap top so I was just wondering. I really like my 1998 original Bondi Blue IMAC....it keeps going and going like the Energizer bunny. I only use my IMAC for work and home use (consisting of letter writing for work) and internet access for work and home. So, I don't need all the bells and whistles...just reliable..... Woz seems like a super cool guy......I miss the pre Ipod Mac reliability. Is the Mac Mini worth it dollar for dollar better then Imac? they seem to be the same thing just that the Imac is all in one (AND more money) and the MacMini you just buy a separate monitor and seems to be cheaper..but cheaper not always better if not reliable....and I start to read all the reviews of the different Macs and my pea brain spins into outer orbit confusion....they all say contradictory things...grrrrr!! I used to have Intego virus protection on the computer but it now says it no longer works and after a year it kept saying it didn't work and had to be updated. Since I took off Norton (returning it to manufacturer since Apple Store won't take it back), I can actually get my computer to work and run...and not crash every time I write a letter, open a document, etc...so I think I am going to be brave and go without the virus protection software. Where do you find Open Mac and what is it exactly? Thanks for all your kind help!! A zillion plus infinity huggles for being so nice to answer my call of angst!! -------------------- For Mikie |

Happy to help. http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/maindownload.php <-- get v2.2.5 not v3 (v3 is new and not so stable yet) http://download.openoffice.org/ <--- v3 of OpenOffice (versions prior to v3 are not suitable for the Mac no matter what anyone tells you) They are fundamentally the same thing. Check system requirements and see what works for you. -------------------- -- Tanuki Raccoon
